Local Mission

Montview Boulevard Presbyterian Church can be seen throughout the community supporting and funding various local projects, mission partnerships with other churches, and efforts of emergency assistance.

Financial support is provided to a variety of community assistance organizations including:

  • The Metro Organization of People (MOP) mission provides guidance and networking to grassroots community organizations. With the assistance of MOP, an often-disenfranchised urban population finds that they can have a voice in the community.
  • Centus Counseling Center offers walk-in counseling to a community that may not otherwise have access to such services.
  • Greater Park Hill Community, Inc (GPHC) is a neighborhood organization that seeks to build cohesion among the racially and economically diverse Park Hill community. GPHC offers a forum for neighborhood topics as well as a community food bank.
  • Metro CareRing is a central Denver assistance organization that provides, among other services, a food bank.

Mission Partnerships allow Montview to join forces with other local Presbyterian churches to impact local programs in an even larger way. The Denver Inner City Parish is a ministry serving the inner-city disadvantaged. Central Visitation Program, Self-Improvement Opportunities,  and Senior Services are among those receiving funding and support.

Financial support is not always in large dollars. A Montview member who served on staff at the Excelsior Youth Center, a live-in facility for troubled youth, asked for Local Mission’s help. Two young clients faced emancipation, and the challenge of living on their own. Montview provided funding for the girls to purchase beds for their new living quarters. Sometimes the smallest gift can have a huge impact.

I addition to financial support, several small non-profit organizations benefit from low-cost office space in our beautiful and historic building. Among those organizations are MOP and Centus Counseling Center (discussed above), a chapter of the League of Women Voters and the Liberian-American Association.

The Gathering Place is temporarily housed at Montview.  A refuge for rebuilding the lives of homeless women and children, The Gathering Place offers an array of program services that are supported by many Montview members.

The Denver Gay Mens Chorus, an organization started to build community through music,  also utilizes the facilities at Montview.  Currently the chorus has office space in the building, rehearses in the choir room, and holds concerts at Montview throughout the year.

Beyond the financial support that the church provides to the above organizations, Montview congregants have the opportunity to be engaged personally in many of the above missions. Montview volunteers have the opportunity to provide tutoring at Ashley and Park Hill Elementary Schools. Volunteers might stock shelves at the food banks or provide Senior Support. They might hammer nails on a Habitat for Humanity house or get involved in a neighborhood initiative. There are numerous opportunities to fulfill that yearning to serve at Montview.
