1. What happens on Sundays at Montview? 1. What happens on Sundays at Montview? Worship services are at 8:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. During the summer (Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend), theres one service at 10:00 a.m. Sunday school for children, youth and adults is from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. from September through May. During the summer, children ages four through completion of first grade may attend Kids Summer Jambouree during part of the worship service, which includes a short lesson, snacks and play. Children in 2nd grade and older should attend church with their families. Childcare, provided by trained caregivers, is offered for children (ages crib-2 years) through the Crib and Toddler Program. Silent pagers are available for parents who bring infants in the program. Childcare is also provided in separate rooms for children ages 3 years through first grade. 2. What is there for children to do? Children, ages 3 to 12, may attend Sunday School at 9:30 a.m. Seasonal activities include: Easter and Advent Workshops, Kids Summer Jamboree and community Vacation Bible School. Members of the Acolyte Guild (grades 4-8) participate in worship by lighting candles, leading processionals, and maintaining equipment. 3. What is there for youth to do? There are many ways for youth to be involved at Montview. Sunday school is offered from September through May for grades 6-8 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. in the Cellar. For grades 9-12, Senior High Sunday school meets in the Brides Room beneath the sanctuary. Youth who are interested in joining the church may attend a Faith Journeys confirmation class, which will resume on Sunday mornings in the fall. Youth are liturgists, greeters, acolytes and singers in Jubilate choir in Sunday worship services. Each year on Youth Sunday Montview kids plan a service and guide the congregation through worship. JAM (Juniors at Montview) and MOB (Montviews Other Bunch), the youth fellowship groups, meet separately on Sunday nights in the Cellar from 7:00-8:30 p.m. Wait, theres more ... Every summer Montview youth attend Montreat West in Fort Collins, CO. And, for the last 47 years, youth at Montview have traveled to various parts of the United States and the rest of the world on work trips. Juarez, Mexico and San Francisco, California have been destinations for the most recent trips. Youth participate in a variety of fundraisers such as a talent show/coffee house, sub sandwich sale and annual garage sale to finance their travels. 4. What is there for adults to do? Education is huge at Montview and the choices for adults on Sunday morning are broad and deep. Based on four principlesKnowing the Word, Doing the Word, Living the Word, and Discovering the Wordmembers and visitors have opportunities to attend 6-week classes, which explore spiritual, social, political and ethical issues. The 49ers Contemporary Forum also meets on Sunday mornings to hear speakers from the community, both local and global, discuss timely topics. Montview encourages unlimited avenues for adult ministry, and invites members to share their strengths and talents with the larger community, both near and far. Through the initiative of many members, Montview programs have found their start and flourished from Ukraine to Park Hill. Fellowship groups, open to all ages and lifestyles, pave the way to connect and get to know one another through social gatherings and activities beyond what happens at church. You become a member by wanting to draw closer to God, by desiring to connect with other members, and by exploring your particular interests and gifts. Since baptisms involve a commitment by the church to nurture the Christian growth of the one baptized, parents of infants being baptized must be members of Montview Church. Baptisms are scheduled regularly throughout the church year. Arrangements may be made through the church secretary. 7. How can I get married at Montview? A marriage ceremony at Montview is a religious service of worship and dedication at which one of the Montview co-pastors presides. Members and non-members may be married at Montview. Scheduling of weddings is dependent on the availability of a Montview pastor and the sanctuary. Contact the Parish Administrator for details regarding date scheduling, pastor selection, fees, and services. 8. How is Montview related to the mainline Presbyterian Church? Montview is part of the Presbyterian, U.S.A. denomination, which is the mainline Presbyterian Church in the United States. We provide a distinctive blend of formal and informal worship, social activism, intellectual exploration and personal connections. 9. Is Montview Preschool related to Montview church? Montview Community Preschool and Kindergarten, located at Montview Church, is a local community mission of the church. The school was founded over 35 years ago to provide excellent preschool education for children of all races, religions and socio-economic backgrounds. Montview Preschool is one of only a few preschools in Denver accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children. The school is noted for nurturing and honoring each child and for providing learning experiences in a supportive and child-centered setting. For an enrollment of approximately 100 children, the staff includes nine teachers, three assistant teachers, a director and an administrative assistant. Taizé services invite prayer through silence, songs, scripture and contemplation. Taizé songs are based on simple phrases sung repetitively. Montviews Taizé services are held the third Sunday of the month at 6:00 p.m. The sanctuary opens at 5:30 p.m. for those wanting to be still, sit and practice silence. Taizé, a community and pilgrimage site in France, hosts many young adults who join in prayer and sharing in an effort to become peacemakers in their neighborhoods, cities or villages. Montview Church is located at 1980 Dahlia Street, on the corner of Montview and Dahlia Streets in the Park Hill neighborhood of central Denver.
