Easter Day Prayer
O Life Spirit, whom death cannot trump.
Oh Risen Christ, whom death cannot divorce.
As those first disciples stood in speechless wonder at your continuing
presence,
so amidst the beauty of this place and the glory of Easter sounds
we stand in our own speechless wonder - at your continuing presence!
O Bond of love that death cannot break.
O Mystery that moves before us with engaging energy.
As those first disciples found that they trusted you
without having to explain it, while overwhelmed by gratitude,
so we stand with you in our own growing trust and grounding gratitude.
Call us out of all that buries us these days,
working before living, worrying before trusting,
competing before cooperating, blind before seeing
held back before set free.
Call us out of our daily tombs
of fret before faith,
of body before spirit,
of mind before heart,
of division before oneness,
until we stagger out of our own tombs,
learning our new steps into resurrection moments,
that with humankind so hard on itself,
we learn new habits of the hard work of your love
that reforms human kind into a work of peace
in our homes
and in the world's battle fields and board rooms.
learning our new steps into resurrection moments,
that are strength and courage for
all those for whom we pray,
dancing into hearts of those hurting, those sick,
those without means, those alone,
until blessings are known and togetherness saves.
So fill our so human life,
remarkably beautiful one moment
and broken and sick and divided and conflicted the next,
taking our so human life and so human church and so human world,
and Easter bless it, Easter forgive it, Easter re-start it,
and in the face of our constant neighbor death,
may we be death's constant neighbor life.
O heart beyond our hearts
O grace beyond our guardedness
O life waiting to burst forth within us.
Amen.
