SECOND SUNDAY AFTER EPIPHANY

January 18, 2026 | 8:30 & 11:00am

GATHERING IN GOD’S NAME

Prelude
Will You Come and Follow Me
arr. Matthew H. Corl (b. 1965)

Welcome
Sandy Prouty
Minister of Children & Families

*A Litany for Worship

Leader: The Prophet Micah told us that the LORD requires us to do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with God. As we celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr’s witness, let us be called to worship by prophets of the Civil Rights Movement. Dr. King wrote, “We will have to repent in this generation not merely for the vitriolic words and actions of the bad people, but for the appalling silence of the good people.”
People: O God, transform our silence into action, our fear into courage.
Leader: President John F. Kennedy said, “The heart of the question is whether all Americans are to be afforded equal rights and equal opportunities; whether we are going to treat our fellow Americans as we want to be treated.”
People: O God, help us to love you and to love others as ourselves.
Leader: Rosa Parks said, “You must never be fearful about what you are doing when it is right. When one’s mind is made up, this diminishes fear; knowing what must be done does away with fear.”
People: O God, remind us that you did not give us a spirit of fear. Help us envision and struggle for a world where justice will roll down like water, righteousness like an ever-flowing stream. Let us worship God.

Gathering Hymn  33  Praise the Lord! God’s Glories Show, Vs 3  (Llanfair)

*Corporate Confession (Unison) (adapted from Dorothy Day)
God of justice, we confess that in the pursuit of our own
dreams and desires, we have not always been civil,
not always humane, not always on the side of justice.
Help us to be your witnesses, by crying out for the rights
of the workers, the poor, or the destitute
so that we can, with your help, change the world.
Enlarge our hearts to love each other, to love our neighbor,
and to love our enemy as our friend. Through the name
of Jesus Christ we pray. Amen.

*Assurance of God’s Love

*Response  Gloria

*Passing of the Peace

339  Lift Every Voice and Sing  (Lift Every Voice)

LISTENING FOR GOD’S WORD

Word to the Children
When the music begins, children are invited to gather on the chancel steps as we sing, “This is where children belong, part of our family, part of our song. Be with us, pray with us, help us grow strong: this is where children belong.” Please note that the 11:00am service is livestreamed and your child’s image may appear on the video.

we may hear with joy
what you say to us today. Amen.

RESPONDING TO GOD’S GRACE

Offering Ourselves and Our Gifts  Rev. Clover Reuter Beal, Co-Pastor
Making a financial gift makes Montview’s programs and ministries possible, including this worship service. You are invited to give generously at www.montview.org/giving or by texting a dollar amount to 720.452.6449. Offering boxes are stationed at the exit for cash and checks. We’re grateful for your support.

All are invited to sign and pass the Friendship Pad and greet each other by name.

*Prayer of Dedication (Unison)
God, you have so greatly loved us, long sought us, and mercifully redeemed us. Give us grace that in everything, we may yield ourselves, our wills and our works. A continual thank offering to you. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

*Response
607  Praise God, from Whom All Blessings Flow  (Doxology)
Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; Praise Christ, all people here below;
Praise Holy Spirit evermore; Praise Triune God, whom we adore. Amen.

Prayers of the People and The Lord’s Prayer (Unison)
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

*Closing Hymn
792  There Is a Balm in Gilead  (Balm in Gilead)

This morning’s singing of “There Is a Balm in Gilead” – an American Negro Spiritual – is presented in accordance with our reparations royalty pilot program: a practice of valuing the musical contributions of enslaved Africans to American worship and song. All are invited to make a reparation royalty contribution via the pew offering envelope (write “reparations royalty”), at Montview.org/giving (One-time gift: Reparations Royalty Fund) or by clicking here.
