Membership
Whether you are new to the Presbyterian Church, or you are considering a transfer, those interested in becoming members of Montview will attend an Inquirers’ Class.
About the Inquirers’ Class
Offered six times a year, the Inquirers’ Class provides an opportunity to explore becoming a member of Montview. The class includes some time to get to know one another, think about our own faith journeys and consider what led us to Montview.
Throughout the class, we learn more about the Montview community, our ministry and the larger context of the Presbyterian Church.
You will get to know our Co-Pastor, Clover Beal, our Executive Minister, Jason Hays, our Minister of Children and Families, Sandy Prouty, our Associate Pastor of Youth and Families, Amanda Osenga, and our Associate Pastor for Congregational Care and Older Adults, Lorraine Leist. You will also meet others who are interested in membership at Montview.
The class concludes with a Q&A period, during which we can provide further details for those who decide to join.
The Inquirers’ Class is three hours in length and takes place over two days (day one is two hours in length and day two is one hour). To sign up for an upcoming Inquirers’ Class, complete a registration form by clicking here. If you have questions regarding the class or membership, email Todd Rembe, Membership Coordinator/Scheduler, at todd@montview.org.
FAQs
Can I join the church if I haven’t been baptized?
Yes, you can join Montview. On a designated Sunday when new members join the church, you will be baptized during the service. Pastor Clover will meet with you separately, prior to the service, to discuss the Sacrament of Baptism.
Is childcare provided during the Inquirers’ Class?
Yes, qualified childcare professionals are present to care for children during the Inquirers’ Class. Please request childcare ahead of time. Simply provide the name(s) and age(s) of your child(ren) at least one week prior to class. You’re welcome to attend to your children as needed.
Is there anything else I need to do to become a member outside of attending the Inquirers’ Class?
Yes, about two to three weeks after the Inquirers’ Class, on a Sunday at the later service, you’ll be received publicly as a class.
May I join if I am not Presbyterian or even from a Protestant denomination?
Yes. Montview has been blessed by new members coming from all sorts of traditions.
Will I learn how to become involved within the community?
Absolutely. It is known that if a new member doesn’t find a place within any church, the odds of remaining a member lessens after six months. Montview is home to 50 plus organizations around spirituality, theology, fellowship, the arts. There is a home within a home for you.
