Howard Chandler Christy (1872-1952) was an American painter and illustrator who went through many artistic phases including article illustrations, portraits and historic pieces. His paintings of history involved meticulous authenticity and detailed, exact studies of portraits of subjects, clothing styles, rooms and surroundings of the day.
Scene at the Signing of the Constitution of the United States hangs in the Capital in Washington, D.C. It was commissioned in 1940 and is a massive work measuring 20’x30’. It is the most recognized depiction of the signing.
We give thanks for Howard Chandler Christy and for his photographic interpretation of this important time in the history of our country. May we know other artists who, with time and talent following the inspiration of all good things, remind us of our past and of our continuing values. In God We Trust. Amen.
In gratitude, faith and hope,
