Leadership Transition

Search Committee Updates

Read the most recent search committee updates below.

In May 2024, when we said goodbye to one of our Co-Pastors, Rev. Ian Cummins (view the Denver Presbytery’s MOU: Statement of Ethics for Former Pastors here), we launched an intentional period of reflection and renewal. Since then, we’ve continued to thrive as a congregation—with increasing worship attendance, growing financial generosity, and rising membership. This season invites us into a shared journey of discernment as we search for a new Co-Pastor to serve alongside Rev. Clover Beal.

Listening and Reflection Summary Report

In the fall of 2024, the Transition Team led a process of congregational listening, reflection and discernment. The goal of the work was to carefully assess where the church is today, what are our areas of strength and our areas for continued growth and evolution and what do we want for our church moving forward. The Transition Team has prepared a Summary Report of this work for your review. We are grateful to everyone in the Montview community who participated in this work, offering their time, experiences, perspectives and constructive feedback with an open heart and generous spirit. We give thanks to God for this vibrant and strong church!

1. Preparing for the Interim Season

Our Interim Co-Pastor Nominating Committee conducted an 18-month search for our next Interim Co-Pastor. We extended a call to an Interim candidate who accepted but then needed to withdraw. In response, the Committee and Session worked with the Denver Presbytery on a different transition model that does not require an Interim Co-Pastor. Our transition model will reorganize ministry responsibilities among the continuing Co-Pastor, Associate Pastors, Executive Director, Ministers and other staff.

2. Transitional Season

During this time of transition, the congregation reflected on the vision and mission of Montview using several tools, such as surveys and listening sessions in partnership with Holy Cow! Consulting, a firm that specializes in pastoral leader transitions. This helped us clarify what kind of Co-Pastor we are looking for. We also created a Transition Team who has helped shepherd our journey through the transition process and has communicated regular updates.

3. CPNC Elections

A Co-Pastor Nominating Committee (CPNC) that was recommended by the Session was elected by the congregation for election at the October 27 congregational meeting. The CPNC will search for and nominate a candidate for our next installed Co-Pastor. CPNC Members: Peg Logan (Co-moderator), Nancy VanBurgel (Co-moderator), Bill Schumacher (Co-moderator), Dianne Briscoe McKenzie, Kate Reinemund, Eric Hilty, Matt Spohn, Erika Neal, Craig Maginness and Jessica Crawford

4. CPNC Season of Work

Once the Co-Pastor Nominating Committee is assembled, they will begin their work of the Presbytery’s 12 questions, the future of Montview and the Co-Pastor job description in light of the congregational assessment work we completed with Holy Cow! Consulting. This will all be done in tandem with the Denver Presbytery’s Ministry Relations Team.

5. MDP/Job Description Posted

The Co-Pastor Nominating Committee will work together to create a Ministry Information Form about Montview and a job description for the next installed Co-Pastor and post it to the PC(USA) job board.

6. Co-Pastor Interviews

The Co-Pastor Nominating Committee will sort through all of the applications and start an in-depth interview process with candidates that fit their criteria.

7. Congregational Approval

When the Co-Pastor Nominating Committee decides on their final candidate, they will bring them to the congregation for final approval.

8. The New Co-Pastor

Once the Co-Pastor candidate is voted on and has accepted the position, we will welcome our new Co-Pastor and a new time of onboarding will begin. The Co-Pastor Nominating Committee will be disbanded with gratitude and the Transition Team will conclude their work.
